IAPD Regional 2017 Manila & PPDSI 24th Annual Congress | A Joint Conference
February 27, 2017 - Monday, 8:00 AM
The Blue Leaf Filipinas, Belle Avenue, Aseana City, Parañaque City, Philippines
Oh snap! Registration to this event is closed.

This year, the Philippine Pediatric Dental Society, Inc. (PPDSI) will host for the first time, the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry (IAPD) Regional Meeting in Manila, as we hold this in conjuction with PPDSI’s 24th Annual Congress. The IAPD is a non-profit organization founded in 1969, with the objective of contributing to the progress and promotion of oral health for children around the globe. It has now 64 national member societies and represents more than 15,000 dentists, of which PPDSI has been a member for more than 10 years.

The theme of the conference is Pediatric Dentistry: the Conventional, the Alternative and the Current, as lectures on the evolving techniques and clinical guidelines in the dental management of children will be shared by international experts. This will update your current knowledge and empower you with different approaches. This conference also aims to discuss how all these will apply in your practice and ultimately, the improvement of service for the children.

We are fortunate to have four internationally renowned speakers for this conference — Prof. Richard Widmer from Melbourne, Australia; Prof. Angus Cameron and Dr. Eduardo Alcaino, both from Sydney, Australia and Dr. Ari Kupietzky from Israel. They are also prolific authors, as they have contributions in various articles to scientific journals and textbooks.

Come and join us in Manila! This city indeed has its charm. Known for the great hospitality of Filipinos, you will have a great time learning and connecting with your colleagues.

Speakers and Lectures

Professor Richard Widmer

Professor Richard Widmer

Dr. Richard Widmer received his Master's Degree in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Melbourne. The majority of his paediatric clinical practice over the last 40 years has been at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. He holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor in Paediatric Dentistry, The University of Sydney, and Head of the Dental Department at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. He is a very active clinician and lecturer, presenting to students and graduates in all branches of the Health Sciences, both locally and internationally. Over the years he has held a number of positions within his specialty including, the Presidency of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry, The Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry. Professor Widmer co-edited both the very popular "Handbook of Pediatric Dentistry" now in its fourth edition and in seven languages and the booklet "Paediatric Dentistry: Dental Care for Children. A guide for parents".

Richard's clinical work is all about making the dental visit one to remember, from the first visit of a child and the family to the sensible decisions on the need for dental work for many others. The oral health visit is really a health visit and the dental team have to see themselves as part of the total health picture from encouraging new parents to have their child immunized, or to use appropriate restraint in their car, or encouraging prevention in sports activity and of course maintaining excellent oral health for all children especially those with co-morbidities.
