Pediatric Dentistry: "Learning Globally, Unlearning Locally"
CONGRESS: Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 8:30 AM
Education is a dynamic process. What might be true now, will be obsolete in the future. Pediatric Dentistry is no exception. With the passage of time, including the advent of the pandemic, traditional treatment approaches might no longer be applicable at present. We need to 'unlearn' our habitual yet outmoded beliefs and practices. This includes updating our knowledge on cariology and its correlation with the social determinants of health and culturally appropriate technologies. If we were taught the ideal 'dentist-centered' treatment planning, a child-centered 'rational treatment planning' may be more feasible to serve the best interests of the child patient. New concepts of oral health promotion and levels of pediatric health care will likewise be discussed.
How to Be ME (How to Be Motivationally Engaged)
CONGRESS: Friday, March 26, 2021 at 2:00 PM
The concept of "dental home" is a relationship between the dentist and the patient or community, based on trust and compassion, as contrasted to a 'dental clinic', 'dental check-up' or 'dental visit'. Motivation is the core of 'dental home' and should also be the foundation of any pediatric dental practice. This lecture will present an overview of 'motivational interviewing', an evidence based approach known to be effective in causing behavior change, whether you are in private practice or in public health. It is a counseling approach that is child-centered, utilizing the family’s intrinsic motivation to cause change towards positive health outcomes.

Francisco Ramos-Gomez, DDS, MS, MPH

He is very keen on encouraging sound research and evidence-based practices as he is a Board Member of the International Association of Dental Research and a member of the World Wide Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry -CAMBRA coalition.
Just last year 2020, Dr Ramos-Gomez has started to lead a grant worth $2.25M awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA). The grant, coined CARE PD (Community Access Reach Education in Pediatric Dentistry) aims to develop and restructure the interprofessional education (IPE) curriculum of the UCLA School of Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry Section.
Among his many accolades are the National Dental Association Foundation Colgate Palmolive Faculty Recognition Award for Research in 2011, and the IAPD Bright Smiles Bright Futures Award in Glasgow 2015 for most innovative intervention designed preventive clinical trials.

The past year has been a challenging one for all of us. But we are now learning to adjust and hopefully, thrive in this changed & changing world.
The way we communicate with our patients, especially our child patients, has changed drastically. The tools, methods and treatment options for children have changed as well, with a shift towards and an emphasis on aerosol-free procedures.
In the midst of this pandemic, learn how to effectively communicate before, during and after a child's dental visit and know about non-aerosol generating treatment options available to every dentist.

PRE-CONGRESS: Monday, March 22, 2021 at 5:00 PM
Ibuprofen is a safe and effective anti-inflammatory drug to relieve pain and fever in children. Evidence has shown that as an oral analgesic, together with other NSAIDs, it is more effective than opioid in reducing dental pain. It is therefore recommended as first line therapy for acute pain management.

Digital Record Keeping a Way to the Future
PRE-CONGRESS: Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 6:00 PM
A good majority of the time we get stressed in our clinic is not about our patients or patient cases. It is in our administrative work inside the clinic. From lost dental records, spending so much time finding patients records, keeping loads of x-ray files, pictures. Loosing precious space in the clinic due to tons papers. Eventually the in.ability to look for patients files when you need it anywhere you are. We deal with patient calls without knowing what case we worked on etc. The Pandemic taught us the value of information anytime anywhere. Avenues for e-prescription, e-certificates. The pandemic taught us the value of technology in our daily lives. From contactless forms, covid assessment questionnaires and soon contactless payments. We in MyMedsPH has all that solutions and best of all. We listen and we never leave you behind.
